We Are 100 Days Smarter!

On Friday we celebrated our 100th day of school!

We have been counting each day that we've come to school and we finally got to 100! We can count up to 100 by 1's, 5's and 10's. Now we are going to work on counting by 2's.

On Friday, we did a lot of activities that involved 100. We tried to do different exercises in 100 seconds, made lists of 100 things, made fruit loop necklaces using 100 fruit loops. Mrs. vanRees even had a treat for us of 100 things. Before we could eat any of it, we had to count it, to make sure we had 100. We counted by 10's, so it was easy to do.

We also brought in our own collection of 100 things. We had a lot of great ideas. We put our collections on our desk and had Mrs. Kewley's class come over and take a look. It was like we had a museum of 100 items all over the room.

100 days of school has been a lot of fun. Can't wait to see what we will learn next!

Character Education: Commitment

This month we are focusing on COMMITMENT as our character education key. Along with Mrs. Kewley's class, we presented the new key to the school last Thursday. We created a movie to show the school what commitment can look like. Check it out below:

Raz Kids

Today Mrs. van Rees showed us how to use Raz Kids. It's a home reading program on the computer. We can listen to books, read books and answer questions about the books we read. We can also decorate a room with all the stars we earn when we read!

Measuring Length

Our learning goal in Math has recently been to measure length. 

When measuring lengths of objects, we make sure to...

• use the same tool to measure something.

Aiden is only using paperclips to measure his desk.

• make sure that there are no spaces between the tool.

Kailey is putting centicubes right beside each other to measure.

• make sure to start at the beginning of the object and measure all the way to the end.

Jayden made sure to measure the entire length of his desk.

• try and keep a straight line.

Leeya is trying to keep a straight line of erasers to measure.

Following these rules we created, can you measure something at home?

Exploring Measurement

We have been exploring measurement this past week. At the beginning of the week, Mrs. van Rees put out a bunch of measurement tools for us to explore.

We really liked exploring with all the different tools. Some of us explored the balance scales, others filled up buckets with counters and some of us tried measuring ourselves with a metre stick. It was a great way to start our measurement unit by exploring all the different tools we can use to measure.
